Yeast from A to Z (video)
Yeast is a living cell of the family of mushrooms. Its scientific name is “Saccharomyces cerevisiae”.
It was discovered by Louis Pasteur in 1857. It is a microorganism of 1/10th of a millimeter. Be careful not to confuse it with the leavening powder, improperly called “chemical leavening”, which in this case consists of mineral salts and bicarbonate, not living cells!
